It’s a pretty busy time of the year for me right now with Origin, and while I’m in the team again, it’s probably not the best time to be away from the Dragons. We’re propping up the ladder and know that every game is now a must-win encounter.
We haven’t had the best time of it lately, having played a lot of away games against the Raiders, Eels and Storm, and winning zero of them.
This week the boys will take on the Sea Eagles, and thankfully it is a weakened line-up, due to them having a few guys in Origin. Having said that when you can replace Steve Bell with Beaver Menzies, it shows you have depth!
The hits have kept on coming at the Dragons with the news that we have lost Rylesy for a while. The big guy has been our best player along with Benny Creagh and it’s a massive blow. Rylesy is a great leader and captain and will be tough to replace, but I know whoever comes in will do a great job.
It seems everyone is either injured, or leaving the club at the moment, and all the player signings are a bit weird, especially when guys come and go mid-season. It’s hard to keep a track of but I am sure there will be more next year.
The biggest mid-season deal was Mat Head going off to England to play for Hull in Super League. I think it’s a good move for Heady as he will get the chance to play regular footy in an easier competition. He can handle the NRL easy, but he needs to get his confidence back, and if he does he may even come back to the Dragons next year, you never know!
Next week, will see me play in the third game of the Origin series, and we need to win.
Our pride is on the line in this one. We need to improve our attack, the defence has been very good but we have lacked a bit of sharpness with the footy; hopefully some training sessions this week will help us out.
In terms of my own game, I would love to get the ball out deep and on the fly, but if I have to do the hard work of running out of dummy-half again I won’t complain. It’s not ideal but it’s a team game and I need to do my best for the team.

I’m still a bit down from the loss on Wednesday night, and it was hard to lose the way we did, but we had our chances, especially at the end, and in the end we could have used them better.
